The Sri Aurobindo Ashram grew as a natural expression of the ideals of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother.श्रीअरविन्द-आश्रम का विकास श्रीअरविन्द और श्रीमाँ के आदर्शों के सहज प्रवाह एवं अभिव्यक्ति का परिणाम है।

In the beginning, only a few companions of Sri Aurobindo lived with him like a family. As the years passed, more and more people were drawn to his vision of a new humanity. When The Mother finally came to Pondicherry in 1920, the numbers grew rapidly and a collective spiritual life began to take shape.प्रारम्भ में श्रीअरविन्द के कुछ थोड़े-से सहयोगी ही पारिवारिक भाव के साथ रहते थे। जैसे-जैसे वर्ष व्यतीत होते गए, अधिकाधिक लोग श्रीअरविन्द के नये मानव की परिकल्पना के प्रति आकर्षित होते गए। 1920 में जब श्रीमाँ अंतिम रूप से पांडिचेरी आ गयीं, लोगों की संख्या बड़ी तेजी से बढ़ने लगी और एक सामूहिक आध्यात्मिक जीवन मूर्त रूप लेने लगा।

Sri Aurobindo Societyश्रीअरविन्द सोसायटी

The main aim of the Sri Aurobindo Society is to work for a spiritual society and a new world based on the teachings of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother.श्रीअरविन्द-सोसायटी का मुख्य उद्देश्य श्रीअरविन्द और श्रीमाँ की शिक्षाओं पर आधारित एक आध्यात्मिक समाज और एक नये विश्व के लिए कार्य करना है।

It was founded in 1960 to bring together individuals and institutions inspired by this ideal, so that they could give it effective form — individually and collectively — across the world.इसकी स्थापना 1960 में उन व्यक्तियों एवं संस्थाओं को एक जुट करने के लिए हुई थी जो उक्त आदर्श से प्रेरित थे ताकि वे व्यक्तिगत तथा सामूहिक रूप में विश्व भर में उस आदर्श को प्रभावी ढंग से मूर्त रूप दे सकें।

The Mother and her missionश्रीमाँ और उनका ध्येय

The Mother was born in Paris on 21 February 1878. Even as a child she had remarkable dreams, visions and spiritual experiences.श्रीमाँ का जन्म 21 फरवरी 1878 को पेरिस में हुआ था। जब वे बहुत छोटी थीं तब भी उन्हें असाधारण स्वप्न, अंतर्दर्शन और आध्यात्मिक अनुभव हुआ करते थे।

She constantly felt that she had a special work to accomplish, a particular mission to fulfil on this earth. A brilliant student, she became accomplished in painting and music. In the early years of the twentieth century she went to Algeria, where she gained a deep knowledge of occultism.वे निरंतर यह महसूस करती थीं कि उन्हें कोई विशिष्ट कार्य संपन्न करना है और इस धरती पर एक विशेष ध्येय की पूर्ति करनी है। वे बड़ी कुशाग्रबुद्धि विद्यार्थिनी थीं और उन्होंने चित्रकला तथा संगीत में बड़ी निपुणता प्राप्त की थी। बीसवीं शताब्दी के आरंभिक वर्षों में वे अल्जीरिया गयीं, जहाँ उन्होंने गुह्यविद्या का गहन ज्ञान प्राप्त किया।

The call of the Divine always held the highest place in her life. In Paris a group of earnest seekers and idealists gathered around her, and from time to time she had visions in which spiritual figures guided her — many of whom she later met in person.भगवान के प्रति आकर्षण का उनके जीवन में सदैव सर्वोपरि स्थान रहा और पेरिस में उनके इर्द-गिर्द तीव्र जिज्ञासुओं एवम् आदर्शवादियों का एक समूह केंद्रित होता गया। इसके साथ-साथ श्रीमाँ को समय-समय पर ऐसे अंतर्दर्शन होते रहे जिनमें उन्हें आध्यात्मिक विभूतियों का मार्गदर्शन मिलता रहा। इनमें से अनेक व्यक्तियों से कालांतर में उनकी भेंट भी हुई।

Sri Aurobindo — a brief introductionश्रीअरविंद — एक संक्षिप्त परिचय

Sri Aurobindo was born in Calcutta on 15 August 1872. At the age of seven he was sent to England for his education.श्रीअरविंद का जन्म 15 अगस्त, 1872 को कलकत्ता में हुआ था। सात वर्ष की आयु में उन्हें शिक्षा के लिये इंग्लैंड भेजा गया।

He began writing poetry at an early age. During a brilliant student life at St Paul’s, London and King’s College, Cambridge, he mastered not only English but also Greek, Latin and French, and learnt German, Italian and Spanish.उन्होंने अल्पायु से ही काव्य-लेखन आरम्भ कर दिया था। लन्दन के सेंट पॉल और कैम्ब्रिज के किंग्स कॉलेज में अपने प्रतिभा-संपन्न विद्यार्थी-जीवन के दौरान उन्होंने न केवल अंग्रेजी में बल्कि ग्रीक, लैटिन और फ्रेंच भाषा में भी दक्षता प्राप्त की तथा जर्मन, इतालवी और स्पैनिश भाषाओं का भी ज्ञान प्राप्त किया।

• The descending triangle represents Sat-Chit-Ananda.अवरोहणात्मक त्रिभुज सत-चित-आनन्द का द्योतक है।
• The ascending triangle represents the aspiring answer from matter in the form of life, light and love.आरोहणात्मक त्रिभुज जीवन, प्रकाश और प्रेम के प्रत्युत्तर का द्योतक है।
• The junction of both — the central square — is the perfect manifestation; at its centre the lotus is the Avatar of the Supreme, and the water within the square represents multiplicity, the creation.दोनों का मिलन स्थल — केंद्रीय चतुष्कोण — पूर्ण अभिव्यक्ति है जिसके केंद्र में कमल परम पुरुष का अवतार है; चतुष्कोण के बीच का पानी विविधता, सृष्टि का प्रतिनिधित्व करता है।

• The central circle represents the Divine Consciousness.मध्यवर्ती वृत्त भागवत चेतना का द्योतक है।
• The four petals represent the four powers of The Mother.चार पंखुड़ियाँ श्रीमाँ की चार शक्तियों की प्रतिनिधि हैं।
• The twelve petals represent the twelve powers of The Mother manifested for her work.बारह दल श्रीमाँ की बारह शक्तियों के प्रतीक हैं जो उनके कार्य के लिए अभिव्यक्त हुई हैं।

Some activities of the Societyसोसायटी की कुछ गतिविधियाँ

• Publishing books, booklets and newsletters in many languages — on yoga and sadhana, and on India, education, children, nature and flowers.संसार की कई भाषाओं में पुस्तकें, पुस्तिकाएं और संवाद-पत्र प्रकाशित करना — योग और साधना के अतिरिक्त भारत, शिक्षा, बच्चों, प्रकृति और फूलों संबंधी विषयों पर भी।
• Producing video, audio and slide material to help centres and members in self-development, social transformation and human unity.केंद्रों और सदस्यों को आत्म-विकास, सामाजिक रूपांतरण और मानव एकता में सहायता हेतु वीडियो, ऑडियो तथा स्लाइड तैयार करना।
• Research in education, Indian culture, management by consciousness, health, renewable energy, herbal medicine — and above all the awakening of human potential.शिक्षण-उपकरण, भारतीय-संस्कृति, चेतना द्वारा प्रबंधन, स्वास्थ्य, अप्रचलित ऊर्जा-स्रोत, जड़ी-बूटी औषधियाँ — और सर्वाधिक महत्वपूर्ण, मनुष्य की प्रसुप्त क्षमताओं के जागरण पर शोध-कार्य।
• “Auro Service” — building an economic structure based on truth, service and spirituality.‘ओरो सर्विस’ — सच्चाई, सेवा और आध्यात्मिकता पर आधारित आर्थिक ढांचे का निर्माण।
• Youth and Women’s councils that awaken and channel energy toward a new social order, each publishing a monthly magazine.युवा-परिषद् और महिला-परिषद् — युवाओं और महिलाओं में जागृति और नयी समाज-व्यवस्था की ओर उनकी शक्ति को मोड़ना; दोनों मासिक पत्रिकाएँ प्रकाशित करती हैं।
• Regular conferences, seminars, study camps and youth and women’s camps in India and abroad.भारत में और भारत के बाहर नियमित रूप से सम्मेलन, विचार गोष्ठियाँ, स्वाध्याय-शिविर, युवा-शिविर तथा महिला-शिविर।
